Bankfull Channel

This page contains instructional documentation on downloading and running the "Bankfull Channel" tool in ArcMap.  

Tool Inputs

Line Network:  The tool requires a segmented line network for the creation of thiessen polygons.  To create the cleanest polygons, side channels and braids should be removed from the network as well as any very small connector or artificial path segments attached to the mainstems.  The network should then be segmented.  For this tool we have found that about 2000 meters is a good segmentation length (though that can be altered).  See the word document at the bottom of the page for instruction on segmentation.
  
Precipitation:  A vector layer of precipitation representing mean annual precipitation in inches is also a required input.  See the word document at the bottom of the page for instructions on downloading this data.  Once the data is downloaded, clip it to the watershed of interest.   

Flow Accumulation:  A flow accumulation raster converted to units of square kilometers is required to run the tool.  This can be accomplished in ArcMap, but can be time consuming.  For those familiar with Python, see the document on the bottom highlighting performing flow accumulations using the "Pygeoprocessing" python module. 

Valley Bottom:  The tool also requires a polygon representing the valley bottom of the input network.  For instructions on creating and editing valley bottoms see the page: https://sites.google.com/a/joewheaton.org/et-al/nhd-network-builder-and-vbet.
